| Where it all began
The original 41st Virginia began as the "Cockade Cadets," a pre-war militia unit in Petersburg, Virginia, so most of them were middle-class city boys. After admission to the Army of Northern Virginia in 1861, with more than 100 men in Co. E, the 41st fought as a part of Mahone's brigade in 22 major engagements. |
